Where is the other half of the flier?

Why on earth would any family resort and conference center permit the total annihilation of morality a rave in the midst of unknowing tourists? I really look forward to finding out how this all went down. After checking the place's photos out, the only place I can see big enough for a party is in the finely carpeted conference rooms. Is this correct? This idea is so hard for me to wrap my head around. Maybe it's just me. Awesome idea anyway. Nice one.

yes i have been seriously intrigued as to how they pulled this one off myself. all i know is that i'm playing at it.

i'm guessing (and hoping) that they are telling people that this thing is going on and not just randomly booking families there during this. i would feel horrible.

the reviews on trip advisor for this place are pretty amusing... then again, i wouldn't expect a sheraton to be letting a full-on rave go on on their premises either.

there are 4 stages: the main stage = a banquet hall... the 2nd stage is located in the pool/jacuzzi area (which sounds like is located smack dab in the middle of the place)... the 3rd stage is a smaller side room.... and the 4th stage is located in the hotel bar (and is the only one that stops at 2am).

I can see two possible scenarios and maybe I am missing others.

1. The hotel in its entirety closes down for this event, raising the stakes and putting a lot of pressure on either the manager, the promoter, or both.

2. A much more interesting possibility.....raging sound systems in FOUR different areas of the thinly walled building absolutely pulsating the place at the same time families sleep. People with hoops in their ears and mohawks setting up giant angry speakers while kids enjoy the last 30 minutes of innocence in the pool/jacuzzi area before it closes down for the night and grown-ups make questionable decisions. Your average Wisco Dells resort/hotel bar patron will probably flee in terror after the first sound check. If they don't, they will when they discover beats over 120 bpm exist. The conference room in all its 90s neutral, corporate glory will catch a thin or thick film of rave goo depending on the size of the crowd. Does rave goo come out of well cared for commercial grade carpet? Klienbeck can fill me in the next day. If scenario 2 is at all possible, I am tempted to check this out.

Edit: I wonder if rave promoters have to put down deposits on hotel venues like guests put down deposits on hotel rooms? What would the depost be? $10k? $50k?

i think it's probably #1.

and honestly, i think the amount of business this place will see in that one night will outweigh any potential business they had otherwise.

my guess is they shut it down just for this.

Well I guess # 1 could be interesting with lax enough security. My main deterrent from taking my experience to the maximum humanly possible in every way at raves was the ride home. I had to be together enough to find my ride, round up my friends or maybe even drive a short, medium or long distance with a minimum of random cops and maximum of 1+ checkpoints. Eliminate that from this equation and you have the makings for a pretty insane party. Not in the cliche "wild party" sense but in a really empowering and invulnerable feeling type way. If I was a few years younger and hadn't really gotten all necessary lab results back from my drug experiments, this would be and extremely huge deal to me. But my age + my preference of deeper vibes pretty much relegates me to the day after thread which I eagerly await. Sometimes I am a bit of a one man hype factory and over analyze/excite. We shall see and I pray someone flexes their camcorder and or photog skills.

i haven't desired to attend an all-out rave in many years... was definitely happy with the opportunity to play at one of chris' parties and see what the kids have been up to lately. DEFINITELY great to see that things like this are still going and attempted.

my wish is that everything works out for chris and crew because it's a pretty kick-ass idea if you think about it... (and that zero unknowingly families are staying at this place during rave time).

(i also was quite pleased to learn i am playing the pool area.... nothing like playing for a bunch of raver girlies in their bikini's).

just cant swing a hotel room on the current budget - and no way do i feel like driving back from raving all night

i just wish i wasn't playing at the same exact time as the bassbin twins.

was really excited to check that set out dammit.

every year for 9 years when i booked my hotel for the WMC, they had a paragraph their staff was required to read off to anyone booking a hotel in south beach for that weekend. i think their corporate business writers said something like there is a "conference in town" and it often consists of "outgoing" and "liberal" behavior.

i would just hope that the same courtesy would be extended to guests trying to book a nice weekend in the dells with little johnny and stephie..

so, here we are 3 days after, and brad still hasn't coughed it up.. i've heard a lot of stuff (from brad too, but not anything detailed)..

ok, ok, okay...

so i ended up picking up pete from the bassbin twins at like 6pm at the airport in mke. kurt albrecht has been a HUGE bassbin twns fan since like 94 so it was awesome to all ride up together and hear them talk about the beginning days of breaks. (also received some nice edumacation on why the bassbin "twins" has always only been one duder this whole time).

we also brought the crazy man, mr jason stephens, who is a new implant to milwaukee from cleveland. dude is uber hilarious (as we were to find once up there)... and a really good deep tech / minimal techno DJ to boot.

anyway... the whole ride up all 4 of us (including pete) were pretty leary about the whole thing... didn't know what to expect. we just don't rave anymore.... i mean, i'll enjoy an intimate loft or warehouse party full of a bunch of heads, but shit, i can't remember the last time i was at a full on balls to the wall rave party.

we get up there around 8pm and see the entire resort completely packed already. no parking. freaky kids hanging out by every entrance. we walk in to get our rooms and the halls are littered with your typical and favorite rave characters... mr. blue mohawk... mr. dude wearing hemp cape... mr. bringin-back-fat-pants... ms. bikini-top-fishnet-stockings-and-black-nailpolish. a professional rave convention no doubt.

we locate our room and enter to find that we were booked a room who's gigantic window is RIGHT behind the pool area's DJ booth. basically, we could hear the entire soundsystem piercing through our room. yuck. but whatev. to make it fun we harrassed all of the DJ's playing in front of our room. we even had a few pairs of titties find themselves squashed up against the window.

after about 2 hours of getting drunk on fat tire and pabst in our hotel room as we text messaged all our fellow seasoned friends back in the mil to tell them how focking scurred we were we decided to venture out of our rooms and into the madness. the place was absolutely focking hijacked. after locating some essentials we molded into the party quite well.

the party was absolutely hoppin. tinhead and hypnoassassin were fucking ripping the shit out of the bar area with some awesome peak hour minimal techno on 4 decks. the other two areas, i'm sorry to say, while decked out, really had some shitty music on everytime i walked by. people looked like they were having fun though. things we in full force by the time i had to play in the pool room. (i did have to miss bassbin twin's set as he played when i was on.... which kinda sucked).

anyway, onto the pool area.... bikini's focking everywhere. even saw a few speedos. heh. my dance floor was, no shit, a jacuzzi and a pool (with a small dolphin waterslide) and all the pool chairs and space around it. so different, but so cool. damn that place was looking naughty. all of the rooms surrounding the pool area had half naked dancing bodies in their windows.... upper and lower level. was quite the site to see.

i decided that with all the sexiness surrounding me that some bouncey, delectable, sexy-as-shit, sweet'n'candy-styled peak hour minimal was where it was at. after hearing that room banged out with electro and drum n bass the whole night prior to my slot i felt that that space needed some drippiness for once.

and that was what came for the next hour. it was a lovely feeling seeing what it did to the space.

anyway, after my set i kept my promise of immediately packing my gear, throwing on my suit, and doing a canonball into the pool. after migrating to the jacuzzi and being introduced to a real live angel for a bit (she really was) the night seemed to move too fast from that point on. got out of the pool after an hour or two, toured the rest of the stages to hear yet more horrible music (sorry), and eventually began what was the craziest adventure of hotel room afterparty hopping. it was like mad. people hopping from all corners of the hotel to the next jumping from different afterpatrty to the next. pretty soon 3-digit numbers were the commidity... "there's a good one going at 171." "Yeah we just came from 382 and it was hoppin!". "yeah pretty chill gig goin on at 282." etc etc.

karl kee from madison (whom we befriended for a good amount of time that night) probably had the one of the best afterlocales of the night. they pushed the double beds to the sides to create a nice dancefloor... set up the decks and mackies on the dresser... and blamo... afterparty commensed. what a great time. i think that one was still going by noon.

so, sleep was out of the question. we stayed at kee's until about 8am when we decided to head back to our room for atleast a lil chill out time before hitting the road home. jason rolled in around 8am, we found the bassbin TWIN, and off we were... back to the mil.

what a focking crazy experience i tell ya.
