Migrashun is proud to release SEED 015. Amsterdam based producer Applescal has prepared an exclusive LIVE set just for Migrashun. He grew up in Breda where he came in touch with electronic music and software synthesizers at the age of 14. Without any musical background and loads of dedication he learned to make music in a small loft at his parents place. His first ep got released on the dutch imprint Manual Music. More ep's and remixes followed on Deep Focus and Groove Collection. 2009 is the year that Riley Reinhold’s imprint Traum Schallplatten knocked at the door. Besides making records, Applescal plays most of his productions in an award winning live set which is showcased here. Also his unreleased work finds a way in this playful performance, which you can check out on this website.
Track List (click on title to hear preview):
1. Departed
2. Departed (Wasted Chicago Youth Remix)
4. Groggy Head (Densmore Remix)

Up next on Fresh Meat is UK artist Shenoda with his aptly titled Feelings EP. Shenoda’s “feelings” are deep and emotional while his tracks are percussive, chugging and mind bending without doubt. Like his prior releases on Fresh Meat, Hairy Claw, and Hypercolour the tunes featured here are cerebral dance floor heaters.

The opening track “Departed” is fathomless like the ocean but maintains a thumping trackiness. Upfront percussion and subliminal sounds unite to form a compelling relentless groove. For the remix, Mazi and Justin Long reunite as Wasted Chicago Youth to deliver a left of center, disco psychotic workout. The boys play with field recordings of children and various atmospheric sounds from the original, manipulating these elements into their own special organ-centric romp. An otherworldly Jupiter 8 solo sharpens the otherwise sub-bass heavy sauntering rework.

Shenoda’s second original, "Groggy Head," dives even deeper swinging wide with righteous funk. This is real modern House Music with roots. Expect to see hands in the air if you play “Groggy Head,” with its tuneful groove and vocal commands - “Show me how you!” For the remix we enlisted Fresh Meat artist Densmore for a discerning remix clocking in at a sexy 113 beats per minute. Densmore’s mix builds slowly and gracefully with elements from the original and new percussion building the track into a mid-tempo dance floor grinder. Reminiscent of his “Washington Park” project with Cort, this new remix oozes with the hi-fi bump and grind that heads everywhere will soon recognize as Albany New York’s signature sound.

Been listening to the Bruno Pronsato RA podcast all weekend, and I have to say it's a brilliant interpretation of what minimal is after the minimal backlash has taken full effect. And it's a live PA as well too boot. This shows the true power of what minimal music can do and what it can be. Instead of just being a lot of digital effects and bizarre sounds with out any kind of music element, ala what was happening when minimal was at it's height in the middle of this decade, Bruno has put together something thatis truly minimal, but still soulful and groovy at the same time while combining house elements as well and blurring the line between house and techno even more. Highly recommend checking out.

It's also a clinical demonstration on how an Ableton Live PA set can sound and should be presented as well. Just morphing from one mood to the next, not knowing were one "track" (and I use the term loosely) ends and the next begins. A must listen to from anyone into contemporary house/techno.

After few moments of silence during the hot summer months, we return to you with another audio documentation of dance floor destruction! For this chapter of the manifesto Brett Johnson returns to the soapbox with a 3 chaptered message.

Chapter 1 : En El Pegajoso (Main Mix) - The proclamation is loud and clear where no foot is to be left standing still and all will work together in unison to bring down the walls of the establishment. Spoken with a mixture of languages, Brett fuses a Latin vibe with his robot soul style with a mass of drum machine beats and sonic synths that lead the dancer into the next stage of floor disorder!

Chapter 2 : En El Pegajoso (Dub Mix) - The message to the subterranean warrior. In true dub fashion, Brett's message is spoken in clear low tones with a sub base that will strike right to the body! This is as proper as a dub can be with elements from the original stripped down, repeated and collaged together with shades from house music philosophers past. This is not for lightweights and is to be used with extreme caution!

Chapter 3 : Postage Paid - The final ideals are presented in classic Brett lingo focusing on groove and shuffle brought together with subliminal specters from below the foundations of Groove. If you are familiar with the classic texts of ‘Johnson’ then you are no stranger to the language pulsating here!

These are essential words in sound that will secure the existence of our House.

The journey continues, & we feel like it's just about time to "Fuel Up the Beat".
Artefact Records presents our second release, EP by the Macedonian producer Dejan Dex.

In "Fuel Up the Beat" Dex is really pumping his sounds with jackin beats & funky baselines.
"Give It To Him" floats on a contagious rhythm that's gonna stick in your ears, making your head move,
& "3 in 1" has it all: milky quirky melody, sugar coated bases & caffeine energizing vocals.
So whether you choose to consume your "dosage" in your armchair, or dancing your shoes out on the floor,
Dejan Dex has ensured that you stay fueled up with great beats.
Migrashun is proud to release SEED 015. Pär Grindvik or his pseudonym The Hollow has been a core person of the Swedish electronic scene since the nineties as record store-owner (Illegal Stockholm), label manager and producer. He is a well established artist and after many years of touring and releases on big name labels like Drumcode, Spectral Sound and his own label Stockholm LTD, which he created and founded in 2002, he is now based in Berlin, Germany. Expect an hour of heavy hitting techno madness that shows the series isn’t afraid to get heady when needed!

Migrashun is proud to release SEED 014. Raw Hedroom is the musical alias of Gareth Williams. Having immersed himself in electronic music and culture for more than ten years, Gareth has worn several hats in the electronic music industry. Right now, he produces techno for Cologne's Trapez label, builds custom performance systems for Richie Hawtin's Plastikman Live tour and steers the ship at Line - this man-machine has a thirst for challenges and won't let something as mundane as time hold him back.

Artistically, Gareth is fascinated by the interface between music art and technology. In fact, he sees no real distinction. Music drives technology, which in turn drives the music itself. Being part of a team building their own technology really allows him to explore this intersection closer than most. The resulting sound is innovative, but always in touch with the dance floor. His preferred process of jamming live during the production process captures the human error, groove and happy accidents which are all too often missing from much of today's electronic music. We that you enjoy Gareth’s seamless addition to the SEED podcast series.

Audio Soul Project's “Call of Grace” marks a new beginning for Fresh Meat. This single is the start of our ongoing 'Vinyl Only' series. Those of us laboring at FMR HQ love the weekly ritual of buying music at local record shops. It just feels right that our little imprint fully support this love affair with wax.

The original “Call of Grace” is a soul stirring tune that features vocals by Chicago mainstay Ron Carroll; a man with decades of experience. Starting with subtle improvisations, Carroll's chant “Raise your hands” evolves in layers, invoking believers to the dance floor. Mazi's latest production is the antithesis of derivative music choking digi-shops. Live percussion, 909 cymbals and kick, stacked claps and rhythm effects all chug feverishly under layers of organ, piano and synthesis. Orchestral string stabs escalate the vibe completing a statement emblematic of the Windy City.

It took some time to find remixers for this package. Our debut tribute to the phonograph needed exactly the right feel; timelessness. Inspired by his impeccable Drink Your Juice EP, we thought MANIK would fit the bill. We weren't wrong. MANIK's version is low slung and beautifully down tempo NYC deep house. Clocking in at a smooth 116 beats per minute, this elegant remix utilizes skippy electric pianos, staccato bass notes and signature vintage drum machine cadences.

Freerange wunderkind Milton Jackson brings this package home with a shining example of why his skills have been in demand year after year. Loose fluttering beats accompany three levels of bass echoing Glenn Underground's classic “Detroitism”. Warbling tight pads juxtapose against synth stabs completing the foundation for Carroll's uplifting vamps.

This music comes from our imagination - a tale of three cities. The vinyl makes it real.

SELECTED FEEDBACK:
Jimpster - Yes! Brilliant release here! Original mix is superb but MANIK's mix is really special, loaded with funk and raw energy. MJ gives a nice tech tough too.
Deetron - Great vocal, love the original mix!
Sasse (Mood Music) - WHEH - hot package, like all mixes but if I had to pick up one it would be the Original - amazing vibe and vocals are amazing. But all mixes are solid, will support big time. Want vinyl!
Shur-I-Kan - Manik, MJ and Audio Soul Project in one pack with this you are really spoiling us ambassador!
(Playhouse . Klang Elektronik . Cocoon . Alter Ego)

Legendary German DJ and producer Roman Fl¸gel has
been active since the early 90's, releasing a diverse
array of Techno, House and Electro under various guises
including Alter Ego, Acid Jesus, Eight Miles High, and
Soylent Green. As a co-founder of the famous
triumvirate of labels Playhouse, Klang Elektronik, and
Ongaku, he has had an enormous influence on dance
music throughout Germany and the world, along the
way remixing heavy hitters like Daft Punk, Blaze,
Primal Scream, Ricardo Villalobos, Tiefschwarz,
Radio Slave, and countless others. Don't miss this
true musical pioneer in his Bay Area debut.
::: MOTOR CITY DRUM ENSEMBLE :::

(MCDE . 20:20 Vision . Compost)

With the obvious influence of classic Detroit sounds
throughout his music, it would be a forgivable mistake to
assume Motor City Drum Ensemble is a product of our
own Motor City, but such is not the case. Hailing from
Stuttgart, the automobile production capital of Germany,
this "ensemble" actually consists of one Danilo Plessow,
a musical prodigy who at the tender age of 25 has already
released on more than 25 labels and has proven to be a
key figure in the recent global resurgence of Deep House.
Having blown minds with his "Raw Cuts" series and
delivered one of the most revered RA podcasts to date,
we are proud to bring him to the West Coast at last for
his much-anticipated debut.
::: ROMAN FL‹GEL :::

It all started with one of these Chicago Trax compilations on DM/STREETSOUNDS. As a reaction to his thirsting for more of these crazed beats from overseas and with a view to his tight budget, the greatest hits of these expensive imported 12î singles were soon released in the form of a compendium. This opened Pandoraís box, for very young Roman Fl¸gel, too. Innocently given to him by his elder brother as a present (ìHe probably had no idea what he was about to unleash and just wanted to give me some new musicî), the dazzle of the unrefined and feverish dance music, furnished with just a few drum machines and inexpensive synthesizers, turned the whole world upside down for the cultivated music pupil from Darmstadt. After several evenings at Sven V‰thís renowned Omen club, few kilometres further up north, and his mind was made up. Memories of the atmosphere at the legendary Warp or Underground Resistance label nights has put a smile on Fl¸gelís delicate face ever since ñ a man who would also make a fine figure as a literature lecturer, poet or thinker. ìLFOís bass, once they had set up their massive range of equipment, was unbelievable,î he says laughing.

It didnít take long before the well-trained ear tried out more than just classical melodies. Little by little, he collected a vast array of equipment, bringing forth his first sound experiments and enough courage to give a demo tape to indie fan (thatís what music magazines like Zillo used to call people like that back then) Jˆrn Elling Wuttke. The latter was a well-known face in Darmstadtís music scene and often enthused about new electronic music. In him he had found the right partner and Wuttke could hardly believe his spellbound ears.

DJs und Delirium record sellers Ata and Heiko MSO from Frankfurt felt the same. At first they thought someone was making fun of them. It sounded too authentic and unique. The music Fl¸gel and Wuttke had presented to their label Ongaku and Klang Elektronik as Acid Jesus or, rather, Alter Ego, couldnít possibly come from the little neighbouring town Darmstadt. In Frankfurt, that kind of sound made people think of Detroit. The rest is history and forged an almost holy alliance. Speaking of holy: a humid summerís day, a crate of beer and a studio in a garage sufficed to found a new label by the name of Playhouse for Holy Garage and to create that certain ìsurpriseî which still excites house clubs today. Comrades-in-arms such as IsolÈe, Don Disco alias Losoul and Ricardo Villalobos made the label the number one address. So they went on, history was written and the nineties flew by in a jiffy. His degree course in music was in the way: ìIt seemed obsolete somehow, just to be analyzing church sonatas all day when there were so many interesting things going on around me. When, on top of that, the only semester on modern music was cancelled that year, I decided to leave the university.î

Luckily for us all, actually. The electronic intellectualís productivity is virtually unparalleled and Roman Fl¸gel, the producer, DJ and label co-owner of Ongaku/Klang/Playhouse has meanwhile become a gentle giant in the German electro scene. With his own personal style and the privilege of being independent from the usual constraints of the music industry. A free spirit instead of a sheep. His solo project as Soylent Green (see the latest ìLa Forca Del Destinoî compendium) is just as much of a must as his Alter Ego project with Wuttke, rigorously affirming techno down to the very last detail. He and Wuttke also count as techno Teuton Sven V‰thís favourite producers, who booked the team to produce a series of his own music. Romanís work as Eight Miles High and Ro 70 show his quieter side, while the remixes (e.g. for The Human League, Primal Scream, Pet Shop Boys, Kylie Minogue) and tracks under his own name (just think of the Arcade rave of ìGehtís Nochî) are light dancefloor affirmations.

Roman also champions the cause of this in his job as an entertainer. Tried and tested by the stadium and pop hit ìRockerî, Fl¸gel and Wuttke can be proud of being able to set any auditorium in the world on fire with their live set. DJ Roman Fl¸gel can say the same of himself. Be it his sets at Offenbachís Robert-Johnson, Amnesia on Ibiza or Berlinís Tollhaus Berghain/Panorama Bar: instead of disappearing in trivial and meaningless elevator clicks, he prefers to make his way through 20 years of ìraveî. Contemporary music that includes bleeping house or quirky techno meets futuristic Italo-disco and electronica devoid of all provenance. There was a time when youíd call that kind of sound acid house, released cheaper by the dozen on compilations. It all turns full circle again.
::: MOTOR CITY DRUM ENSEMBLE :::

At the tender age of 6, Danilo Plessow`s path in music started with playing drums. With his engagement in a school big band in Schw‰bisch Gm¸nd (near Stuttgart/Germany) he found his love for jazz ñ and from 11 years of age on he started working on his own music using a computer and samples. Being influenced by Jazz, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop and House music, the first results were already released 5 years later--at the age of 15!--on Stuttgarts Pulver Records. Together with Joachim Tobias, Danilo had formed the House/Broken Beat project ìInverse Cinematicsî (http://www.myspace.com/inversecinematics): Seven 12î Records, the highly acclaimed album "Passiní through" and many remixes and compilation appearances followed. The project was and still is a favorite of some of the worldís most influential leftfield DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Rainer Tr¸by (with whom Danilo actually proves a productive collaboration), Michael R¸tten or Benji B. After several other co-operations and solo projects in the Nujazz vein ('Hipster Wonkaz' with P.Valentino for Ubiquity Records or solo as 'Aphro Pzyko' for Raw Fusion), Danilo went back to his House music roots with the ìMotor City Drum Ensembleî (MCDE).

This artist moniker refers to his home town Stuttgart, the world's cradle of the automobile and Germanyís very own motor city (w. Mercedes-Benz / Porsche / Bosch a. o.) and obviously is a link to Detroit as well. Taking influences from Soul, Disco and Detroit/Chicago 90`s House, the new moniker soon became his best known: He released five 12î in 2008, and especially his ìRaw Cutsî series made him a shooting star in the Deep House scene, highlighted by the internet house/techno bible ìResident Advisorî for whom he did a mix-tape that is soon regarded as one of the best mixes of this significant podcast. Having blown the world away with his ëRaw Cutsí series, released on his own label ìMCDEî (run together with Pablo Valentino), Danilo has made an enormous impact on House and Techno. On ëJuno Recordsí all three 12" of the cult series are meanwhile charted within the top 8 of the all time 'Deep House' bestsellers and undoubtedly they are still belonging to the most played tracks on the dance-floors! His other own label ìFour Roses Recordingsî has been doing also very well.

Thanks to his remarkable musical talent and overflowing creativity, Danilo has become a sought after and very successful re-mixer as well. With just 25 years of age and including all his projects he has already released on more than 25 labels.

No doubt, 2009 was MCDEís year. In February, Beatportís team of music experts had put him ahead of the up and coming Deep House artists worldwide. In the following months MCDE got a growing critical and popular wave of applause due to his amazing, sample-heavy ëdiscoishí house tunes, delivering the whole ëDeep Houseí notion with clarity and vision alongside a definitive style and by keeping the quality levels bubbling over. ìMCDE has cultivated a style that is somehow incredibly loose and tight at the same timeî and that has made him one of the most appreciated producers of dance music at its best who manages to blend House, light Techno and Disco with the same amount of success. With his impressive slew of stunning remixes for the likes of DJ Sprinkles,Tiga, T-Coy, Steve Bug, DJ T, Tom Trago, Jazzanova, Presence, Akabu, Toby Tobias, Losoul, A. Lodemann and others, Danilo created Deep House master pieces. Since march 2010 for example, his buoyant remix of NUfrequency's "Fallen Hero" leads the top 100 all-time charted tracks (of over 400.000 !) on RA's DJ Charts and he's ranked among the top 10 charted artists. As well, his estimated podcasts (for RA/XLR8R/Juno Plus/Ö) proved that he understands much more about house than what simply emanates from his mixing desk.

Just as successful as he does with his top-ranking productions he works for the dance floors as a very popular DJ ñ just being picked out by the RA-Poll one of the TOP 50 worldwide (as well as one of the youngest of course!). So Danilo now hits the road on a regular again to show some of his DJ skills, which already have brought him to the most famous venues all over Europe, the US, Russia, Asia and Australia .

A reviewer brought it into focus: ìDanilo Plessow has been writing and composing electronic music since he was fourteen years old. Now at twenty-five, he has become one of the most sought after and accomplished artists in the world. From his staggeringly diverse productions, to his brain changing remix work, to his obsessive DJ sets around the world, this young man turns heads with seemingly everything he does. He has played some of the best clubs, parties, and radio shows on earth, and being on equally as large and respected recording labels.î - ìDanilo Plessow is still young, but itís obvious from his 2009 that he has an innate talent for the simple things and will likely continue his run for a long, long time.î ñ Therefore better watch out, this boyës on a mission!
Wind Horse Records imprint returns to embrace the exotic with the Persian Love EP, the debut set by rising New Delhi DJ/producer Vipul Angirish. Fans of Wind Horse or the budding Indian house music scene may recall Angirish's blazing remixes for Hamza's "Guru Funk" and "Dharma Voyager" on the label's previous two singles. On the Persian Love EP it's Vipul's time in the spotlight, with his first original track in turn remixed by Hamza.

Vipul Angirish's road to Wind Horse was somewhat guided by an Indian astrologer who affirmed that DJ'ing was Vipul's chosen path rather than a more traditional occupation. Vipul met Hamza at his New Delhi club DJ residency where they immediately formed a friendship, with Hamza guiding Vipul's growing aspiration and production sound. This relationship has borne fruit in the form of the mature and expressive sounds found on the Persian Love EP.

The track "Persian Love" is an intriguing mixture of organic, live instrumentation and synthetic house music sounds. The title references the song's use of the oud, a traditional Persian string instrument. Hypnotic rhythmic sections give way to pronounced breakdowns prominently featuring the oud, creating an air of travel over large, foreign spaces. The cut builds dramatically, filled with pinging reverbs and swooshing cascades. Wind Horse founderHamza provides a more tribal-influenced, percussive version in his remix, complete with live drumming sections and buzzing drones anchored by steady house beats. The oud is ever-present, lifting Hamza's remix with a melodic build in the second half.

Vipul Angirsh's second original cut on the EP, "Ranjhana," is named for, as Vipul says, "an intimate lover in a very famous tragic love story." Here Vipul collaborates with the vocalist Vin, another first for the young producer. With its more straight-forward house rhythms "Ranjhana"'s uniqueness comes from Vin's ethereal, ethnic vocal and the interplay of Vipul's synth melodies. Deep string pads enter mid-way through the track to accompany the vocal, leading to an effective and emotional breakdown section. This is intensely gorgeous work from Vipul Angirish, sure to become staples of the more adventurous DJ's sets.

CheckPoint Charlie (MyCuppaT Blog) - “Another incredible release from Wind Horse - undoubtedly one of my top labels of the year. This release has everything; huge bass lines, deep rhythms, scintillating hooks, hypnotic breakdowns - they are absolute dance floor weapons.”
Joey Silvero (Distant People) - “Hamza's remix has a smooth vibe. I love the percussion on this.”
Marc Lacasse (Urbnet/Jackhouse) - “Ranjhana is straight up solid deep tech-house with a driving bass line. The chanting and floaty chords make for a great late night track.”
Will SumSuch (Ibiza Global Radio) - “A really different sound, loving the traditional eastern vibes in these tracks. 'World' influences so often sound forced in house music, but this hits the mark perfectly.”
Dave Mothersole (Ministry Of Sound) - “Nice release. I like Ranjhana best on first listen, but all three are cool.”[/p]
DJ Morpheus (Radio Campus Brussels/Freezone) - “It’s all good! I like all 3 tracks in here especially the Hamza remix. Wonderful stuff indeed!”
Aaron-Carl (Wallshaker Music) - “OMG, Ranjhana is gorgeous from beginning to end. Much respect to Wind Horse Records -- they NEVER disappoint!”

Different style, more downtempo/trip-hop (no replies)

And here it is, a bit more downtempo. Been trying to find more tracks like this to DJ with, but they usually are very short and have very un-DJ friendly arrangement. So here's my take on this groove and sound. Almost house/techno meets trip-hop

Two new house tracks, one deep and sexy, the second more driving and grinding (no replies)

Here's two new tunes I'm very proud of. Starting to hit my stride production wise I think. Starting to feel very comfortable with my song writing and am feeling more confident with my production skills

Here's the deeper, sexier one. It has a solid groove that just locks you in and keeps you hook, and then towards the end I have a little jazz riff that just struts in. Simple but effective.

[soundcloud.com]

And here's the second one, much more driving and grinding. I have a nice tech house/electro house build up towards the end and I am liking how it's turning out, just need to work on the release of the tension a bit more to make it have more impact. Any and all suggestions are appreciated on this.

Cheers and thanks for listening as always
