screendoor (justin grall)
Like most midwest techno artists, Screendoor (Justin Grall) was influenced early on by the sounds emanating from the Chicago-Detroit axis during the warehouse rave scene of the late nineties. With an interest in all sounds electronic from ambient to hardcore, Screendoor's journey style dj sets represent a vast range of influences, today with an emphasis on the psychedelic and heady sounds coming out of Berlin. Outside of the DJ booth, Screendoor ran one of the last remaining vinyl outposts in Milwaukee and the Midwest, Niche Style / Sound for four years before closing in the spring of '08. He continues to promote events regularly bringing in a variety of international and national talent as a member of the projekt collective. Over his 10 year DJ career, Screendoor has performed alongside old and new school techno artists such as Acid Circus, Adam X, Barem, Brian Ffar, Bruno Pronsato, Butane, Centrific, Dan Bell, Daniel Mnookin, Derek Plaslaiko, DJ ESP Woody McBride, Eidolon, Frankie Vega, Hyperactive, James Patrick, Justin Long, Kyle Geiger, Matthew Dear, Maetrik, Mike Dearborn, Punisher, Ryan Crosson, Safety Scissors, Sassmouth, Seth Troxler, Someone Else and Superpitcher.
sir fice (nate york)
With roots in early-nineties Midwest rave culture, Sir Fice (Nate York) has an appreciation and deep understanding of techno's history. Influenced early on by Plastikman's "Sheet One", Sir Fice's techno sound has organically progressed into the modern minimal sound of today. Although minimal is in vogue, Sir Fice doesn't let his large collection of techno classics gather dust in the back of the bin. Effectively teasing in classics of yore with the new creates a balance of tension building and full on maximal release that many new school jocks tend to neglect. With 10 years of experience behind the decks, Sir Fice's aggressive mixing style distorts the line between classic and contemporary, destroying dance floors along the way. To date, he's played alongside techno heavyweights Steve Bug, Derek Plaslaiko, Acid Circus, Maetrik, Punisher, Robert Armani and Woody McBride to name a few. As a promoter, he has been involved with the successful two-year run of the AudioTribe crew's weekly "HomeBrew" events and now has dedicated his time to projekt, a collaboration specializing in bringing world class, boundary pushing techno and minimal to the Midwest.
